Project Description

The Greek Revival to Modern residential project was an entire remodel that encompassed every room
as well adding square footage onto the kitchen to maximize workspace and Carmel Valley mountain

Planning for a new season in life can be challenging and yet also extremely rewarding. Monterra
Monterey residents concluded it was time to downsize from their European castle of 8200 to 3500
square feet of living space. Their vision was to create a modern version of classical architectural
elements in a fresh new way. They quickly learned there were many challenges to navigate through
planning and designing a residence that would reflect their new lifestyle.

Lewis Builders was commissioned to completely remodel the home, and Jana Caron Design was brought
on as an interior design consultant. Working closely with the client and contractor, our scope was to
bring the modern vision to life by first designing each area and developing drawings to communicate
that vision. Secondly, selection of construction finishes throughout, and thirdly photoshop drawings
executed where needed. Regular meetings with the client and Lewis Builders prior and during the
construction process was vital to keep the project on course and moving forward. Great consideration
was made for the design of each space to accommodate the client’s current needs and style, as was
integrating preferred traditional details of their former home. During this process, we were responsible
for specifying the flooring finish and patterns, tile-stone design, paint colors, decorative lighting,
fireplace details, cabinet layouts as well hardware selections. To complete the interiors, custom window
treatments were designed, fabricated, and installed. We worked with the client to specify and order
new furnishings where needed. We also consulted on wallcoverings, exterior lighting fixture
specification and placement, and a custom entry gate made by a local artisan. The modernized Greek
Revival home is a success story of collaboration, dedication, and endurance that highlights current fresh
finishes and conveniences in classical design.

After the client successful move in, another bonus for our firm was to assist in the relocation of
furnishings and accessories that did not have a spot in their new home. Consignment by the Sea in the
Crossroads Carmel is a showroom facility that offers such products to potential new owners. As an
owner/partner, we consign fine furnishings and accessories that no longer fit into your home or working
environment. Not only is it a wonderful community service, but a great place to shop for that lightly
used furniture piece and or collectible treasure you will not find in department stores. Please feel free
